BackgroundThe English-Speaking Union was formed almost 90 years ago with the aim of promoting closer ties between English-speaking peoples. Since then it has grown into a worldwide organisation operating in more than 50 countries creating international understanding through the use of the English language. TaskESU wanted to redesign their website to reflect the value of English in the 21st century. They wanted to make their message available and relevant to an ever-growing online community. ResultAccessibility was a key issue during the development of the ESU site - it had to work regardless of web browser or operating system, and with consideration for any disability the user might have. BlackOrange consulted The Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), which defines worldwide standards for web accessibility. As a result they developed the ESU website to conform to the W3C accessibility guidelines, satisfying the majority of Level AAA compliance requirements. |
